Let Me Introduce myself - Ashley Alexis (BSc. Hons., IMSM)

My name is Ashley Alexis and I was born and raised in the beautiful twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Marketing is my love and passion. I’m also a fashion, foodie and wine enthusiast at heart!

I’m excited for the opportunity to share my knowledge, thoughts and marketing strategy experiences with you.

I've worked in the retail, customer service, training and development and banking industries for a combination of 8 plus years.

During the height of the pandemic in 2020, I started to think seriously about my career because I wasn’t progressing professionally. I knew at that point that it was time for me to start acknowledging my purpose.

2020 was indeed an eye opener for me where it broke me emotionally and mentally. It was important that I learn to step out of my comfort zone and acknowledge the importance of utilising my gifts to the best of my ability.

I had to learn to gradually make the changes required to grow and evolve by not allowing fear and uncertainty to hold me back. It was from that moment, I knew that I had to start creating my own opportunities and stop hoping and relying on an organisation to provide them to me. 

I knew I wanted to engage in work that is fulfilling and motivating. Helping, educating and coaching people are what I’m passionate about.

Therefore, it was time for me to start practicing my philosophy that relates to doing what makes me happy, motivated, excited and fulfilled!

I spent 2 years on planning and mentally preparing myself before I proceeded to make this transition. 

Halfway into 2022, I did it!  I finally built up the courage to resign from my job of 7 and a half years so that I can fully step into my purpose. I was tired of feeling demotivated, unhappy, undervalued, stagnant and unfulfilled for far too long.

I knew I have a lot to offer and that I was ready to take the leap of faith. 

My heart knows that I am destined to bring my purpose to life.

How I Developed an Interest in Marketing?

Marketing is a part of life!

We’ve all had to market ourselves at some point in our lives; whether is to get a job, a promotion, to get into a good school or even when on a date with someone.

Growing up in the 90s, I enjoyed viewing and listening to many television and radio commercials that often caught my attention. To date, there are still so many jingles that I remember word for word.

Whenever I went to the grocery stores and shopping malls with my mom, I always observed the packaging, colours and presentation of many popular brands such as Oreos, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and Ben and Jerry’s just to name a few.

I was curious about these brands, the stories behind them and how these brands are still relevant and successful after several decades. Curiosity led me to develop a deep interest in studying and understanding marketing.

Academic Background 

I attained a BSc. (Hons) in Management Studies degree with a concentration in Finance and Marketing in 2014.

Two years after completing my BSc, I decided to further my studies in Marketing.

I went on to pursue an International Master’s degree in Strategic Marketing where I graduated with a Distinction from the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business at my home country of Trinidad and Tobago. My background is in Content Marketing, Personal and Strategic Branding, Project Management and Proposal Writing.

For over a decade, I have worked on various marketing projects for some brands in my home country such as Angostura Trinidad and Tobago Ltd, Marios' Pizza, Stag beer, Paria Suites Hotel and the Hilton Trinidad and Tobago Conference Hotel just to name a few.

Professional BACKGROUND 

I worked in the training and development industry where I helped implemented email marketing strategies plus conducted marketing intelligence and market research. 

My combined marketing experience in training, retail as well as projects within the food and beverage and the hotel industries taught me the importance of storytelling and strategic brand positioning.

I enjoy developing marketing plans and strategies and working in these various industries was quite fun and valuable. I was able to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to design and execute winning strategies.
